Living in Service to Oneness:
The Blessing of Emotional Freedom
by Judith Orloff, M.D.
Another world is not only possible, she is on her way!
On a quiet day, if you listen carefully,
You can hear her breathing.
Emotional freedom is an inner peace movement that is birthed from within each of us, then emanates into the world. The starting place is always you. The more peace you enjoy, the more that
energy ripples out to everyone. Becoming liberated from the bondage of negativity lets you realize your tremendous value as a person. You’ll be more connected to your heart and also feel a communion with the
whole human family. With this awareness, you can treat others as kindred, as one of your own. Generosity and good will soon begin to seem natural.
Achieving emotional freedom gives you ongoing access to your own power center during jubilant times and in adversity. As master of your emotions, you’ll have the wherewithal to
hold your own with angels, demons, and everything in-between. I admire your courage in getting to know yourself. The journey to self-knowledge is an exhilarating yet humbling one. As it unfolds, keep distilling the core message of emotional freedom:
Outer events may be the stimulus for an upset, but how you choose to respond determines your experience. Openness to such growth is more important than mere intellectual knowing. Living in service to the heart blesses you with a
comprehensively loving perspective. As a result, your presence becomes more radiant. A special beauty emerges from within that is transmitted to others.
Emotional freedom means not only living in service to the heart on a personal level but also pledging allegiance to the well-being of the Earth. We are her
guardians, her protectors. To fulfill that sacred duty, we must stay apprised of our emotional motivations lest we unconsciously act out inner strife on a global sphere. It’s daunting to grasp that one emotionally damaged person in a
position of power can inflict cataclysmic planetary harm. As a psychiatrist, my diagnosis is that people with unresolved anger are more apt to wage war. We don’t want to place the fate of peace in the hands
of leaders whose decisions are distorted by rage from childhood or anywhere else. The fact is, happy people don’t want to blow up the world. Rather, advocates for peace must know what it is to feel peaceful. Then we’ll have a far better chance of attaining our goals.
Alternatively, it won’t benefit you to be a fearful whirlwind of unrest trying to save civilization. This will impede your mission. Therefore each of us must put our own emotional house in order.
Our world is the midst of a quickening. It feels like time has accelerated, that the years keep flitting by faster and faster.
This quickening, however, involves more than simply our altered perception of time as we age, our frantic culture, or anxiety about fulfilling our goals in life. The Hopis say our world is sick and needs to get well. To prevent what
geo-biologists call “the sixth great extinction” of Earth’s species (akin to the disappearance of the dinosaurs), we urgently need to save the planet as well as our souls. Throughout history, human nature seems impelled towards turmoil, just as children by a tranquil lake
will inevitably throw pebbles into the water to disrupt the calm. Even so, I have faith that with mindfulness more enduring peace is possible. Who knows the Lords of Peace better than an awakened heart? We’re at a crossroads with choices to be made. We can either ride the
momentum of this quickening to the depths of our love or to the edge of oblivion. Gone is the luxury of a middle ground. We need prophets who aren’t afraid to speak out. It behooves us to heed Albert Einstein’s admonition: “I don’t know what weapons World War III will be
fought with. But World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Emotional freedom tilts the tipping point towards goodness. It allows us to experience inner peace so that outer peace can prosper.
Observing the world is the fascination of my life and profession. I am drawn to penetrate to the center of things. But what I live for most are those perfect intuitions that convey I’m on
center with my heart. My fondest wish is that this book ignites an excitement in you about this experience, that I’ve inspired you to rebel against whatever opposes love. Our heart is our greatest legacy. Over time, your emotional insights will refine themselves. Stay with
them until they shimmer. Remain loyal to ways of being that feel authentic. During phases of self-doubt or when you falter, keep in mind: A golden compass always points to the heart. That’s the direction to freedom.
The overarching message of my book Emotional Freedom is to manifest love with abandon. Cherish each moment on the widening path to emotional freedom. A dream once told me, “Now is the beginning
of forever.” With a sense of wonder, let’s see what’s next for ourselves and hail the mystery of what hasn’t yet become. The present makes the future bright, so make your present as bright as possible.
About the Master, the Tao te Ching says:
He is ready to use all situations
and doesn’t waste anything.
This is called embodying the light.
Accordingly, let’s join together as one in service to the heart as we continue to live and learn. Approach all circumstances with the confidence of someone who knows the strength of
loving. Circulate goodness wherever you go. Every day, you create your own karma. Good or bad: it’s up to you. Our bond with one another, our bond to the world,
illuminates the vision of the whole. Carve out a space within where intuition and love can abide. Trusting what’s inside so fervently will allow you to have a fully
embodied life and connect to the oneness of humanity.
