Who We Are and How We Connect:
Transformational Leadership In a New Era

December 21, 2012. So much has been written and said about the significance of this date - everything from it being the end of the world to it being the dawn of a new age of peace. Though there are significant endings around this
time in several ancient calendars, we've been hearing the most about the Mayan calendar. Based on a 26,000-year cycle, the current Mayan calendar comes to an end on December 21, 2012 and a new calendar begins. Just as our modern-day calendar ends on December 31st and a new
calendar begins on January 1st, so it is with the Mayans - their new 26,000-year calendar will begin on December 22, 2012.
Though there have been many predictions and interpretations of what this means, none of us can truly know the full significance of this moment in history. That can only be revealed over time. Yet many people sense that, in some way, an old world is ending
and a new one is being born. Many are speaking of the dawn of a new era. And we get to choose what we will make of that era. We get to choose who we will be and what kind of world we will create going forward. The world is not about to end, but rather we
are entering a new era of human choice. It's up to us.
So what does this mean on a very practical level for our first year after this new dawn? Where do we put our focus if indeed a door is opening to a new era of human choice?
Numerologically, 2013 is a #6 universal year. The number six is fundamentally about home, family, and community. Home, family, and community are all built on relationships. Both quantum physics and the ancient wisdom teachings tell us that, in fact, the
whole universe is built on relationships.
We tend to think of relationships as being between people, but we also have relationships with ideas, principles, thoughts, beliefs, organizations, and places. And all of those things also are in relationship with each other. The universe is energy in
motion, and the matrix that connects everything to everything else is a matrix of relationships.
It seems no mistake that we enter the dawn of this new era in a year vibration that is all about relationships. This first year in the new era will be all about who we are and how we are in relationship to one another. It will take us into
deeper exploration of the kinds of relationships we choose to build with each other, as well as with the beliefs that shape our lives, with ideas we have about our future, and with our earth home.
What kinds of relationships will we create in government and politics? What kinds of relationships will we build in business? What new relationship doors can open in families and communities?
Some relationships will fall away while new ones, sometimes unexpected, will appear to come out of nowhere. Transformation of who we are in relationship to the world around us is just waiting for us to say yes. Beliefs, values, opinions, and ideas are
evolving faster than sometimes our minds can comprehend, yet our hearts are fully up to speed.
Transformational leadership begins with creating the optimal conditions through which transformation can occur - first for ourselves, and then for those we serve. Transformational Presence, as the bedrock of transformational leadership, is all about who we
are and how we show up. It is a process and a way of being rather than a thing we do.
The first year in this new era, 2013, will no doubt continue to bring many changes, challenges, and opportunities. Yet underneath everything that happens will be an invitation into deeper understanding about relationship. That deeper understanding can lead
to more enlightened choices that create win-win circumstances for all. Our job will be to say yes to the invitations - not just to give them lip service, but to be willing to walk the walk in healing, transforming, and evolving what home, family,
community, and relationship means in our world.
December 21, 2012 - the dawn of a new era. Ride the wave of this new energy into 2013 and its focus on home, family, and community. Choose for this to be the dawn of a new era for who we are and how we connect with one another on every level
of society. Listen for what wants to happen in service of a greater good. Listen to what that greater potential is asking you for. And then stand tall and say yes.
