Candles

Home Blessing
by Illuminations.com

Gathering together in friendship is one of the highest honors you can bestow on one another. This is why it is customary to bring a gift when you visit someone’s home. As a way of celebrating the new year, when you visit friends, make a point to bring good thoughts and kind words to their home.

A more formal acknowledgement is to gather everyone together for a house blessing. This is particularly appropriate for those who are new to their home. It’s easy to do. First, gather the group together in a place of warmth. This might be the kitchen near the stove, or perhaps in front of a fireplace. In ancient times a gift of fire was carried into the new home by a family member or an elder from the tribe. Let the warmth of the fire or stove become the theme of your blessing. You may wish to light a candle to illustrate that friendship, like a living flame, is ever changing – yet steady and true.

If you are the one who brings the blessing – ask that everyone bring the best and highest thoughts of good fortune and health to all who live in this home. Extend the blessing to all those that cross the threshold - may they live in health and the fulfillment of their dreams. Let each person add to the blessing by speaking words of encouragement and good wishes.

If appropriate, you may visit each of the rooms of the house to imbue them with the gift of your presence. You will leave your friends basking in the glow of your memory and the blessings you left behind.
