to the One You Love
by Arielle Ford
In this crazy, busy world of ours we don’t always put
our mates at the top of our "To Do" list. But
what if we did? What if we put our partner’s happiness
and well being at the very top of our list? Wouldn’t
that make perfect sense?
When was the last time you stopped to think about
doing something extra special for your loved one? Do you
really even know what it is that they would like?
For many people, happiness is in the small details.
Just taking a minute or two out of your day to think
about your mate can make their entire day. A thoughtful
note slipped into a jacket pocket to be discovered later
in the day, or a perfect single rose left on a bed
pillow, is all it takes to let someone know you love,
cherish and adore them.
Here’s a pop quiz: Do you know the following about
- Their secret guilty pleasure
- Their 10 best ways to diffuse an angry or upset mood
- The one thing they have always wanted but have never
- The dream job they fantasize about
- Their deepest phobias and superstitions
- Which celebrity they would want to play them in a
movie about their life
- If time and money were no object how they would
spend the day
- Their views on euthanasia
- Their idea of a heavenly weekend
Did you immediately know the answers? If not, don’t
worry. Chances are even they don’t know themselves
that well. The good news is that I have co-authored a
book for couples that helps to answer all of these
questions and much, much more.
Elizabeth Goodman and I created "The Owner’s
Manual: The Essential Guide to the One You Love,"
published by Jodere Group. Just like everything we own
that comes with an owner’s manual--cars, computers,
cell phones and stereo systems--we think a partner
should come with an owner’s manual, too. "The
Owner’s Manual" is a fun, easy, and truly
interactive, fill-in-the-blank book that gives both you
and your partner the opportunity to list all of your
wants, needs, desires, and fantasies. From which side of
the bed you sleep on, to your favorite movies, you and
your partner will learn one another’s essential
history and important preferences in life. Buy two books
for you and your mate, fill them out and then exchange
them. You will learn so much about the one you love that
you can navigate the waters of relationship more
smoothly than ever before. It will give you both a
chance to empower and care for one another by finally
knowing and understanding their every need.
The questions raised in "The Owner’s
Manual" will inspire laughter, stimulate good
conversation, and create a new or renewed closeness as
you learn more about yourself and share it with your
beloved. More love, more fun—aren’t those two great
reasons to put your relationship on the top of your
"To Do" list?
