101 Ways Feng Shui Can Change Your Life by Nancilee Wydra
New! "101 Ways Feng Shui
Can Change Your Life"

by Nancilee Wydra

Hi Nancilee,

When I'm in the hospital, how can I use feng shui to give my room an atmosphere that's more conducive to healing and less of an institutional feel? I looked in all my feng shui books and still am not sure what to do. I bought a lavender scented candle and will take lavender essential oil and cotton balls with me (lavender really relaxes me). I have pictures of my family packed also. What else can I do?

Love,
Iris P.

Dear Iris,

Going to the hospital can be an unsettling experience and the more we can make the atmosphere familiar the less daunting the experience will be. Your ideas are great; pictures and a de-stressing scent like lavender that works for you are great ways to begin.

Other things that can make the difference between feeling nurtured and feeling isolated are:
Your favorite sleep pillow
A familiar afghan to toss over the hospital blankets
A bed jacket, pajama top or shirt that you can put on over the hospital gown
A place mat you love can be used on the hospital tray
Some favorite magazines, books
Your own pen and paper, and stationary

Remember the more familiar things around you the better. On the chairs supplied for guests, you may want to bring a throw pillow or fabric that can be tossed over.

Helplessness is part of the problem in a speedy recovery. The more you intervene in altering the room (without, of course intervening with the hospital's routine) the more you will feel in control. Here's to you and getting well.

Fondly,
Nancilee
